Soo any ideas would help. W210 E430...took off throttle body. Cleaned and polished. Re-installed. Now high idle. Was getting code p1580 (no more). Thing idles at like 1,000 until I touch the gas, then jumps to 2,000 and stays there when in park. Pretty normal operation when driving except “pronounced” down shifts when stopping. Can any competent Oppo help another Oppo that ruins everything that is good and decent in the world. Just fuck my life.

Is there an idle air control valve that provides a parallel air path around the main throttle body? That might be stuck open.
Or maybe there is no IAC/ICV and it relies on the electronic butterfly valve only. Try this and related threads:

No..it is all electronically actuated. Good thinking though.

You might have to perform an idle re-learn.I don’t know how does it work on Mercs, but with certain Hondas you disconnect and reconnect battery, then hold RPM at 3000 till the cooling fan kicks in. There might be a similar procedure with Mercs. If there isn’t then you must do it via diagnostic computer etc.

Polished the TB? What was polished and how?
Could it be a vacuum “leak”? Try squirting some liquid (water, windex, carb cleaner, etc) around the TB to see if there’s a temporary change.

Some throttle bodies have a special coating on them. Teflon usually. If you ruin the coating it can screw things up.
Only other thought would be gasket leaking for some reason.
You’re sure you didn’t miss any vacuum lines or such?

Intake and butterfly. 2500 grit w/ wd-40 and scotch brite w/ seafoam. I’m checking lines tommorow

Yep, ford would be it. Wasn’t sure if other manufacturers did the same. Sometimes cars will have a little sticker in the engine bay, or under the hood showing a vacuum diagram. Good luck with your troubleshooting!

Reminds me of when I had to remove my intake manifold to get to my injectors and forgot to reattach a vacuum line. Idle at 3k RPMs!!
But yours sounds different. Try popping off the intake tube and watch the butterfly while revving and see if it’s smooth or if it’s catching anywhere or even staying more open than it should.

is this normally done? seems like a bit of overkill?
i just use a microfiber and some tb cleaner when i’m changing the filter on my cars. this gets them all shiny and not sticky.

Does it have an IAC valve? Could have been clogged so opened up too far by a previous owner and just needs to be tightened a bit now.

Did you do a throttle idle relearn procedure? There is a Youtube probably. I think Mercedes guys call it a “factory reset”. Do some Googling I think you’ll find some info. In the Audi/VW circles or GM we just call it an idle relearn or adaptation.
